Aftermath? --Trump regime's attack on Chicago residential apartment building, September 30, 2025

In President Donald J. Trump’s speech to the generals and admirals who he forced to gather on September 30 at Quantico, Trump evinced diarrhea of the mouth, upchucking a 29-page transcript-worth of puerile word salad.

Here is a sample:

You know, when I have a general and I have to sign for a general because we have beautiful paper, the gorgeous paper, I said throw a little more gold on it, they deserve it. Give me, I want the A paper, not the D paper. We used to sign a piece of garbage, I said this man's going to be a general, right?

Yeah. I don't want to use this. I want to use the big, beautiful firm paper. I want to use the real gold writing when you talk about the position. And they're beautiful and -- but how would you like to have that where you -- some kid sitting in the back office is having it signed with an autopen? I thought about it and I thought about you people first, admirals, generals…

And I sign it -- actually, I love my signature, I really do. Everyone loves my signature….

Clearly, Trump has the intellect of a bowling ball. But a bowling ball still knocks down pins.

Trump began his speech as follows:

I've never walked into a room so silent before. This is very -- oh, don't laugh, don't laugh. You're not allowed to do that. You know what, just have a good time. And if you want to applaud, you applaud…And if you don't like what I'm saying, you can leave the room. Of course, there goes your rank, there goes your future, but you just feel nice and loose, OK, because we're all on the same team…

There was an attempt to pass this off as a joke. But it was not a joke. It was a threat. Trump meant it. If the generals and admirals are not on Trump’s “team,” he’ll attempt to use his power to destroy their careers.

Later in the speech, sandwiched between bits of the word salad, were Trump’s entirely intelligible marching orders:

I told Pete, we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military National Guard, but military, because we're going into Chicago very soon.

And that very night—September 30—the Trump regime did just that—admittedly, not with the armed forces, but with the DEA, FBI, and ICE—some breaking in from the ground and others rappelling down from helicopters in the middle of the night to attack a residential apartment building in Chicago. They did so, complete with flash bang grenades, rounding up of adults and children, and arresting residents indiscriminately--immigrants and citizens alike--without the probable cause reqiured by the Constitution’s Fourth Amendment or a judicial warrant, let alone a warrant for any particular individuals.

In the aftermath, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker stated: “This didn’t happen in a country with an authoritarian regime—it happened here in Chicago. It happened in the United states of America—a country that should be a bastion of freedom, hope and the rights of our people as guaranteed by the Constitution.”

With the greatest respect for Governor Pritzker, I must dissent from his statement. This did happen in a country with an authoritarian regime. The government’s action in Chicago fully demonstrates that the nation is now living under such a regime. The question is: what can be done about it? And what will be done about it?

To challenge the regime’s ongoing violations of the Constitution in court after the fact has proved ineffectual because: (1) it is too late to stop an illegal raid or arrest; (2) where judges find against Trump’s regime, the regime just ignores the courts and continues its illegitimate actions anyway; and (3) the now corrupted Supreme Court has proven that it will support actions in violation of the Constitution, as it recently did concerning ICE deeds in Los Angeles. In addition, the Republicans in control of Congress back the regime as well and if Trump can create an excuse to declare martial law, it is questionable whether there will be an election in 2026, let alone a fair one.

The mainstream media needs to stop beating around the bush and acknowledge that we are now living in a police state. It also needs to stop assuming a neutral stance and openly address the situation.

It is evident, based on federal agency participation in the Chicago attack, that the DEA and FBI have chosen the side of dictatorship. And the ICE Berserkers are likely recruits from among Trump’s January 6th insurrectionists and/or those of their ilk.

The only question left is what will the generals and admirals do?

The military is in a difficult position. They are supposed to refuse to follow illegal orders. And the Posse Comitatus Act generally prohibits presidents from using the military to attack civilians in America. But for individual military leaders or soldiers to make the decision concerning legality of orders for themselves is unworkable. It would probably result in divisions within the military and a slew of court martials.

For military leaders to agree as a group to stand for the law and against the Trump cabal would require coordination, and would likely be labeled mutiny. But such mutiny, at this point, may be the nation’s only hope.

I agree that we are currently living in a police state in pcokets of the country. As a Christian, I will not be complicit of this takeover. Many Americans who voted for him are also suffering, having been furloughed or fired for no legitimate reason. He is learning well from his friend, Putin.

It sounds hopeless

I wish I could disagree. Maybe not entirely hopeless. If the opposition could ever get their act together on what to do in addition to protests. (I think state and local law enforcement need to start arresting ICE on the spot when they pull their illegal actions. And governors should use state police to keep Feds intent on these illegal actions from entering their states.) The Democrats have just been asleep for too many decades while those behind project 2025 were building this.
